A mustard seed, a pinch of yeast,
common elements, diminutive in size,
almost invisible to the human eye.
They are not the images we would have chosen
to speak of God’s kingdom here on earth
because they lack importance and grandeur.
However, Jesus showed us
through his life, death and resurrection
that unlike the rulers of this world
God’s ways are quiet and humble,
mysterious and unpredictable,
yet constant and relentless.
Perhaps the mustard seed and the pinch of yeast
are to serve as daily reminders
that smallness is not synonymous with powerlessness,
and that God’s realm is proclaimed
through the apparently insignificant work
that you and I do, alone and together,
to welcome, feed, shelter, defend and heal
God’s creatures in our midst and everywhere.

“El poder de la pequeñez”

Lea el pasaje aquí: Mateo 13:31-33, 44-52
Un grano de mostaza, una pizca de levadura,
elementos comunes, diminutos en tamaño,
casi invisibles para la vista humana.
No son las imágenes que habríamos escogido
para hablar del reino de Dios aquí en la tierra
porque carecen de importancia y grandeza.
Sin embargo, Jesús nos mostró
con su vida, muerte y resurrección
que a diferencia de los gobernantes de este mundo
los caminos de Dios son callados y humildes,
misteriosos e impredecibles,
pero constantes e implacables.
Quizás la semilla de mostaza y la pizca de levadura
deben servir como recordatorios diarios
de que la pequeñez no es sinónima de la impotencia,
y que el ámbito de Dios se proclama
por medio de las obras aparentemente insignificantes
que realizamos tú y yo, a solas y en conjunto,
para recibir, alimentar, albergar, defender y sanar
a las criaturas de Dios en medio nuestro y en todo lugar.
