“No te has ido”

A mi padre fallecido y eternamente presente

por Magdalena I. García

No te has ido, papá, a ningún lado,
te veo cada mañana en el espejo,
oigo el eco de tus sabios consejos,
saboreo contigo el café colado.

No te has ido, papá, a otra dimensión,

No te has ido, papá, al tercer cielo,
por más que la tumba quiera encerrarte
sigues viviendo lejos del panteón.

No te has ido, papá, alzando el vuelo,
por más que el tiempo intente desplazarte
sigues enraizado en mi corazón.

“Mutualidad, igualdad, comunidad” / “Mutuality, equality, community”

A triple love mural on the @properties building, in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood.

por Magdalena I. García

Estamos tan acostumbrados
a pensar en jerarquías
que no podemos entender
a ese Dios Trino
que nos anuncia un nuevo orden
donde se valora la mutualidad.

Estamos tan acostumbradas
a pensar en masculino
que no podemos entender
a ese Dios Trino
que nos anuncia un nuevo orden
donde se valora la igualdad.

Estamos tan acostumbrades
a pensar en solitario
que no podemos entender
a ese Dios Trino
que nos anuncia un nuevo orden
donde se valora la comunidad.

Perdónanos, Dios Trino,
por distorsionar tu visión,
por traicionar tu intensión,
por descuidar tu comisión.
Ayúdanos, Dios Trino,
a duplicar tu disposición,
a encarnar tu compasión.
a modelar tu inclusión.

“Mutuality, equality, community”

A confession for Trinity Sunday

by Magdalena I. García

We are so used
to hierarchal thinking
that we cannot understand
this Triune God
who announces a new world order
where mutuality is valued.

We are so used
to masculine thinking
that we cannot understand
this Triune God
who announces a new world order
where equality is valued.

We are so used
to solitary thinking
that we cannot understand
this Triune God
who announces a new world order
where community is valued.

Forgive us, Triune God,
for distorting your vision,
for betraying your intention,
for neglecting your commission.
Help us, Triune God,
to duplicate your disposition,
to embody your compassion,
to model your inclusion.

“Ven, Espíritu de Pentecostés” / “Come, Spirit of Pentecost”

Una confesión basada en Hechos 2:1-4

Art made by residents at Symphony of Bronzeville rehabilitation and nursing center in Chicago.

por Magdalena I. García

y celebrar tu diversidad,
por negarnos a proclamar tu libertad
y extender tu hospitalidad.

Ven, Espíritu de Pentecostés,
irrumpe en nuestras vidas,
barre con la mentira y la falsedad,
arrasa con la violencia y la enemistad,
trueca nuestra arrogancia por humildad,
reordena nuestras prioridades y actividad,

listos, dispuestas, diligentemente
para acompañar la soledad,
compartir la responsabilidad
y transformar la sociedad.

“Come, Spirit of Pentecost”

A confession based on Acts 2:1-4

by Magdalena I. García

When the day of Pentecost had come,
they were all together in one place.
Forgive us, God of the garden of Eden,
you who created us to live in community,
for distancing ourselves
from those who threaten our comfort,
for segregating ourselves
in multiple forms in church and society.

And suddenly from heaven there came
a sound like the rush of a violent wind,
and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
Forgive us, God of the strong east wind,
you who parted the waters
and turned the sea into dry land,
for forgetting that your Spirit
moves freely according to your will,
for privatizing your blessings
and marketing your piety.

Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them,
and a tongue rested on each of them.
Forgive us, God of the pillar of fire,
you who lit the way
and guided your people in the desert,
for deifying leaders and warlords
who are instruments of evil,
for underestimating your presence
and despising your image in humanity.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other languages,
as the Spirit gave them ability.
Forgive us, God of the Tower of Babel,
you who loathed idolatry and tore down pride,
for resisting to adopt your identity
and celebrate your diversity,
for refusing to proclaim your freedom
and extend your hospitality.

Come, Spirit of Pentecost,
burst into our lives,
sweep away all lies and falsehood,
blow away all violence and enmity,
swap our arrogance with humility,
reorder our priorities and activities,
ignite the fire of our charity,
inflame the log of our goodness,
fuel the flame of our generosity,
and boost the light of our solidarity.

Come, Spirit of Pentecost,

so that we might renounce once and for all
privilege and complicity,
and go out in your name
ready, willing, diligently
to accompany loneliness,
to share responsibility,
and to transform society.

por Magdalena I. García

extendiendo, compartiendo, sazonando y ablandando,

“On behalf of others” / “A favor de otros, otras, otres”

A reflection based on John 17:20-26

A tree of remembrance put together by caregivers at a workshop on self-care. The leaves bear the names of loved ones who received care.

by Magdalena I. García

Jesus prayed
on behalf of others

Jesus spoke

on behalf of others
Jesus interceded
on behalf of others

Jesus came
on behalf of others
Jesus healed
on behalf of others
Jesus lived
on behalf of others

Jesus suffered
on behalf of others
Jesus died
on behalf of others
Jesus overcame
on behalf of others

His life was
constant intercession,
overflowing service,
incessant defense,
defiant claim,
for life and the well-being of others.

And the community that bears his name
is called to be
constant intercession,
overflowing service,
incessant defense,
defiant claim,
for life and the well-being of others.

“A favor de otros, otras, otres”

Una reflexión basada en
Juan 17:20-26

por Magdalena I. García

Jesús oró
a favor de otros

Jesús habló

a favor de otras
Jesús intercedió
a favor de otres

Jesús vino
a favor de otros
Jesús sanó
a favor de otras
Jesús vivió
a favor de otres

Jesús sufrió
a favor de otros
Jesús murió
a favor de otras
Jesús venció
a favor de otres

Su vida fue
intercesión constante,
servicio desbordante,
defensa incesante,
reclamo desafiante,
