You entered the city,
but we move to the suburbs.
You entered the city,
but we build highways over urban areas.
You entered the city,
but we drive away from dangerous neighborhoods.

You entered the city,
but we gather in the sanctuary.
You entered the city,
but we refuse to walk down the block.
You entered the city,
but we close the temple doors.

You entered the city,
but we keep a safe distance.
You entered the city,
but we avoid mingling with strangers.
You entered the city,
but we dislike the cacophony of languages.

Daring Jesus,
give us the courage to enter the places
where your children eagerly await
a gesture of hope
from those who praise your name.

Caring Jesus,
increase our compassion to enter the places
where your children desperately need
a helping hand
from those who proclaim your name.

Approaching Jesus,
renew our commitment to enter the places
where your children justly demand
a genuine partner
from those who are sent in your name.

Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotros nos mudamos a los suburbios.
Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotras construimos carreteras sobre las áreas urbanas.
Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotres nos alejamos de los barrios peligrosos.

Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotros nos congregamos en el santuario.
Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotras rehusamos caminar por la cuadra.
Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotres cerramos las puertas del templo.

Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotros guardamos una distancia prudente.
Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero nosotras evitamos mezclarnos con gente extraña.
Tú entraste en la ciudad,
pero a nosotres nos disgusta la cacofonía de los idiomas.

Jesús audaz,
danos valor para entrar a los lugares
donde tus hijos e hijas aguardan ansiosamente
un gesto de esperanza
de parte de quienes alaban tu nombre.

Jesús cariñoso,
aumenta nuestra compasión para entrar a los lugares
donde tus hijos e hijas necesitan desesperadamente
una mano amiga
de parte de quienes proclaman tu nombre.

Jesús cercano,
renueva nuestro compromiso de entrar a los lugares
donde tus hijos e hijas demandan justamente
un socio genuino
de parte de quienes son enviados en tu nombre.
