“The GPS for Jesus”

An Easter reflection

Picture from my iPhone.

 By Magdalena I. García

Jesus, where can we find you
in our world today?[i]
The women went to the tomb
and said that you were not there.
Peter crawled into the grave
and confirmed you were not in sight.
But then we hear of other disciples
who found you along the way,
as they were sharing the news,
as they were breaking the bread.

Forgive us, dear Lord Jesus,
for not paying attention,
for ignoring the messengers,
for missing the clues.
They said, “The GPS for Jesus
takes you right through Galilee,
with stops for healing the sick,
feeding the hungry,
welcoming the stranger,
and making the captives free.”

That must be why we decided
to take a different route,
one that skips the stops for service,
a slightly shorter commute.
And then we wonder how come
we can’t see the face of Jesus,
forgetting that he often hung out
with the poor and the dispossessed,
and that if we dare do the same
we will see him and be truly blessed.
