From the Pastor: “On Ascending”
Today is Ascension Sunday, and we read about Jesus “ascending into heaven” (a First Century metaphor for God’s dwelling place). Stories like this one tend to give rise to an escapist theology, leading believers to an individualized faith that awaits a miraculous rescue. But Jesus teaches us that true “ascent” (in terms of meaning and fulfillment) passes through the way of “descent” (in terms of service to each other). And he taught us to pray saying, “Your kingdom come” (instead of “take me to your kingdom”). Let’s pray and work that God’s kingdom might descend. ~ Pastor Magdalena

De la Pastora: “Sobre Ascender”
Hoy es el Domingo de la Ascención, y leemos que Jesús “ascendió al cielo” (una metáfora del Primer Siglo para describir la morada de Dios). Relatos como éste tienden a impulsar una teología escapista, que lleva a los creyentes a vivir una fe individualista y a esperar un rescate milagroso. Pero Jesús nos enseña que el verdadero “ascenso” (en términos de significado y satisfacción) pasa por la vía del “descenso” (en términos de servicio al prójimo). Y él nos enseñó a orar diciendo, “Venga tu reino” (en vez de “llévame a tu reino”). Oremos y trabajemos para que el Reino de Dios descienda. ~ Pastora Magdalena
