From the Pastor: “On Masters”
Those of us who live in the United States tend to think that we are free people, simply because we are part of a democracy. But would a quick look at our finances reveal a different picture? Consumer debt continues to rise, and while unemployment certainly contributes to this statistic, some of the other major causes include poor money management, lack of financial literacy, and instant gratification. Come Holy Spirit, and free us from the bondage of over spending so we may be free to surrender only to God as our Master! ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García

De la Pastora: “Sobre las Amos”
Quienes vivimos en los Estados Unidos tendemos a pensar que somos libres por el simple hecho de que somos parte de una democracia. ¿Pero será posible que un vistazo a nuestras finanzas revele una realidad distinta? La deuda de los consumidores sigue en aumento, y aunque el desempleo ciertamente contribuye a esta estadística, algunas de las otras causas principales incluyen un mal manejo del dinero, la falta de conocimientos financieros y la gratificación inmediata. ¡Ven, Espíritu Santo, y líbranos de la esclavitud del derroche para que seamos libres y podamos entregarnos sólo a Dios como nuestro Amo! ~ Rev. From the Pastor: “On Oaths”
We continue reading the Sermon on the Mount on Sundays. Apparently, some things never change. In Jesus’ day people also had the tendency to beat around the bush, and were quick to forget what they promised. In Matthew 5:33-37, Jesus tells his disciples to honor the vows they make. What vows have you made? Can you imagine how different the church would be if all its officers honored the ordination vow “to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?” Come Holy Spirit, and help us to honor the vows we make! ~ Rev. Continuamos leyendo el Sermón del Monte los domingos. Aparentemente, algunas cosas nunca cambian. En la época de Jesús la gente también tenía la tendencia de andarse con rodeos, o de olvidar rápidamente lo que prometían. En Mateo 5:33-37 Jesús le dice a sus discípulos que honren los votos que hacen. ¿Qué votos ha hecho usted? ¿Puede imaginarse qué distinta sería la iglesia si todos sus oficiales honraran el voto de ordenación de “servir al pueblo con energía, inteligencia, imaginación y amor?” ¡Ven, Espíritu Santo, y ayúdanos a honrar las promesas que hacemos! ~ Rev.
