“Heal us” / “Sánanos”

A prayer based on Matthew 4:18-23 / Una oración basada en Mateo 4:18-23


Household remedies and vitamins in my kitchen cabinet / Remedios caseros y vitaminas en el gabinete de mi cocina

Healer Jesus,
you who traveled through Galilee
“and healed every kind
of disease and illness,”
come again and tour
the streets of our cities
and the halls of Congress,
because our society is seriously ill:
fragmented by divisions,
infected with lies,
paralyzed by apathy,
contaminated by selfishness,
deafened by prejudice,
blinded by racism
and poisoned by hatred.

And come and remind us
that those who follow you
are called to be agents of healing
in your name,
so take away all fear
of diagnosing sickness
in light of your word
and removing tumors
by the power of your spirit,
even at the expense
of our safety and reputation,
because silence renders us
accomplices of evil.

Come, Lord Jesus, heal us,
and make us instruments
of your healing.
Amen.

Jesús sanador,
tú que recorriste Galilea
“sanando a la gente de toda clase
de enfermedades y dolencias”,
ven de nuevo y recorre
las calles de nuestras ciudades
y los pasillos del Congreso,
porque nuestra sociedad
está gravemente enferma:
fragmentada por las divisiones,
infectada por la mentira,
paralizada por la apatía,
contaminada por el egoísmo,
ensordecida por los prejuicios,
cegada por el racismo
y envenenada por el odio.

Y ven y recuérdanos
que quienes te seguimos
tenemos el llamado
de ser agentes de sanidad
en tu nombre,
así que líbranos del miedo
de diagnosticar la enfermedad
a la luz de tu palabra
y extirpar la tumoración
por el poder de tu espíritu,
incluso a expensas
de nuestra seguridad y reputación,
porque el silencio nos convierte
en cómplices de la maldad.

Ven, Señor Jesús, sánanos
y haznos instrumentos
de tu sanidad.
Amén.
