“Don’t you care?” / “¿No te importa?”

A reflection based on Mark 4:35-41

Scared by the storm,
fearing for their lives,
the disciples asked,
“Master, don’t you care
that we’re drowning?”
And Jesus got up
without excuse or reproach
and rebuked the wind
and ordered the sea,
“Peace! Be still!”

And just like the disciples
we turn to God every day
crying out for help,
asking for divine intervention
in the devastating storms
of our life and our world,
forgetting that often times
we are accomplices
to the winds of injustice
and the waves of inequity.

We want to hear Jesus
say once again

to the winds and the waves,
“Peace! Be still!”
But we struggle to hear Jesus
say to us again and again,
“Wake up, Beloved Church,
don’t you care that they are drowning?”

“¿No te importa?”

Una reflexión basada en Marcos 4:35-41

por Magdalena I. García

Asustados por la tormenta,
temiendo por sus vidas,
los discípulos preguntan,
“Maestro, ¿no te importa
que nos ahoguemos?”
Y Jesús se levantó
sin excusa ni reproche
y reprendió al viento
y le ordenó al mar,
“¡Silencio! ¡Cálmense!”

Y al igual que los discípulos
nos volvemos a Dios cada día
clamando por ayuda,
pidiendo la intervención divina
en las tormentas devastadoras
de nuestra vida y nuestro mundo,
olvidando que muchas veces
somos cómplices
de los vientos de injusticia
y las olas de inequidad.

Queremos oír a Jesús
decir una y otra vez

a los vientos y las olas,

“¡Silencio! ¡Cálmense!”
P
ero nos cuesta oír a Jesús
decirnos vez tras vez:
“Despierta, Iglesia Amada,
¿no te importa que se ahoguen?”

“I am the seed” / “Soy la semilla”

A reflection based on Mark 4:26-34

Zinnia seeds saved from my garden. / Semillas de clavelones guardadas de mi jardí.

by Magdalena I. García

I am the seed:
small, tiny,
almost invisible to the eye.

I am the seed:
longing for earth,
thirsty for water.

I am the seed:
precious, powerful,
ready to sprout.

I am the seed:
full of mystery,
wonder and delight.

I am the seed:
destined to die
for a chance at life.

I am the seed…

“Soy la semilla”

Una reflexión basada en
Marcos 4:26-34

por Magdalena I. García

Soy la semilla:
pequeña, diminuta,
casi no me puedes divisar.

Soy la semilla:
anhelo caer en la tierra
y la lluvia experimentar.

Soy la semilla:
preciosa, poderosa,
lista para germinar.

Soy la semilla:
llena de misterio,
con maravillas para encantar.

Soy la semilla:
destinada a morir
para que la vida pueda brotar.

Soy la semilla…
