“Give me this water”/ “Dame de esa agua”

A reflection based on John 4:1-42 / Una reflexión basada en Juan 4:1-42

“Give me this water”,
says the Samaritan woman,
who longs to drink
from the living water
that can quench the thirst
for acceptance and community.

“Give me this water”,
says the immigrant woman,
who longs to drink
from the living water
that can quench the thirst
for safety and opportunity.

“Give me this water”,
says the homeless woman,
who longs to drink
from the living water
that can quench the thirst
for shelter and equity.

“Give me this water”,
says the queer woman,
who longs to drink
from the living water
that can quench the thirst
for recognition and dignity.

And all of them look to us,
the followers of Jesus,
hoping to be offered
a cup of siblinghood
with no strings attached,
and praying that we will join hands
and help to build a world
where nobody is thirsty.

dice la mujer samaritana,
que anhela beber
del agua viva
que puede calmar la sed
de aceptación y comunidad.

“Dame de esa agua”,
dice la mujer inmigrante,
que anhela beber
del agua viva
que puede calmar la sed
de seguridad y oportunidad.

“Dame de esa agua”,
dice la mujer desamparada,
que anhela beber
del agua viva
que puede calmar la sed
de albergue y equidad.

“Dame de esa agua”,
dice la mujer cuir,
que anhela beber
del agua viva
que puede calmar la sed
de reconocimiento y dignidad.

Y todas ellas nos miran,
a quienes seguimos a Jesús,
esperando que les ofrezcamos
un taza de hermandad
sin condicionesy
y orando porque unamos las manos
y ayudemos a construir un mundo
donde nadie tenga sed.
