Now about eight days after these sayings
Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to
pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his
clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah,
talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure,
which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions
were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his
glory and the two men who stood with him. – Luke 9:28-32, NRSV
It’s the story of our lives:
we are often so drowsy
that we miss the daily signs
of the presence of God
all around us.
We blame work, stress and insomnia
for our lack of awareness,
but it’s mostly egotism that robs us
of the presence of God
all around us.
And yet once in a while
we manage to stay awake
and notice the quiet unveiling
of the presence of God
all around us.
We look closely at nature:
a flower, a raindrop, a rainbow,
and marvel at the dazzling appearance
of the presence of God
all around us.
But we struggle to see the divine
in the friend, the neighbor, the
stranger
and to affirm in each other traces
of the presence of God
all around us.
The challenge is to see God’s light
in all our human encounters
and to make sure that our lives bear
witness
to the presence of God
all around us.

“A nuestro alrededor”
Una reflexión para el Domingo de la
Transfiguración

Como ocho días después de que Jesús dijo
esto, subió al monte a orar, y se llevó con él a Pedro, Juan y Jacobo. Y
mientras oraba, cambió la apariencia de su rostro, y su vestido se hizo blanco
y resplandeciente. Aparecieron entonces dos hombres, y conversaban con él. Eran
Moisés y Elías, que rodeados de gloria hablaban de la partida de Jesús, la cual
se iba a cumplir en Jerusalén. Pedro y los que estaban con él tenían mucho
sueño pero, como se quedaron despiertos, vieron la gloria de Jesús y a los dos
hombres que estaban con él. – Lucas 9:28-32, RVC
Es la historia que se repite:
a menudo estamos tan somnolientos
que no nos percatamos de las señales
diarias
de la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
Culpamos el trabajo, el estrés y el
insomnio
por nuestra falta de percepción,
pero es mayormente el egotismo lo que nos
priva
de la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
Y sin embargo, de vez en cuando,
logramos mantenernos despiertos
y notamos el silencioso desvelamiento
de la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
Fijamos nuestra atención en la
naturaleza:
una flor, una gota de lluvia, un arco iris,
y nos maravillamos ante la deslumbrante
aparición
de la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
Pero nos cuesta ver lo divino
en el amigo, la vecina, el extraño
y afirmar en cada cual rasgos
de la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
El reto es ver la luz de Dios
en todos los encuentros humanos
y asegurarnos de que nuestra vida
testifica
de la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
El reto es reflejar la luz de Dios
en todos los encuentros cotidianos
y asegurarnos de que encarnamos
la presencia de Dios
a nuestro alrededor.
