 And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” – Luke 1:46-55

Mary’s song holds the key

for a church that’s truly fit

she’s given us in her poem

a powerful tool kit

forget the local gymnasium

with its fat-burning machines

try instead Mary’s formula

for body-toning routines

begin by scattering the proud

and doing away with their plans

then bring down all the dictators

remove from office the autocrats

next give your full attention

to the lifting up of the lowly

fill the hungry with good things

sharing goods, land and money

this formula may sound scary

it may drive supporters away

but the Gospel is in essence

the reversal of oppression’s way

Advent is a season of transforming

and seeing with the eyes of the heart

the injustices that cry out for revolutions

the inequities that drive humans apart

come, Lord Jesus, and show us the way

to do great turnarounds in your name

until all creation rejoices with Mary

over the ushering in of the Lord’s day

Un recurso para la liturgia dominical basado en Lucas 1:46-55

Entonces María dijo:

“Mi alma glorifica al Señor,
y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador.
Pues se ha dignado mirar a su humilde sierva,
Y desde ahora me llamarán dichosa
por todas las generaciones.
Grandes cosas ha hecho en mí el Poderoso;
¡Santo es su nombre!
La misericordia de Dios es eterna
para aquellos que le temen.

Con su brazo hizo grandes proezas,
y deshizo los planes de los soberbios.
Derrocó del trono a los poderosos,
Y puso en alto a los humildes.
A los hambrientos los colmó de bienes,
y a los ricos los dejó con las manos vacías.
Socorrió a su siervo Israel,
y se acordó de su misericordia,
de la cual habló con nuestros padres,
con Abrahán y con su descendencia para siempre”. – Lucas 1:46-55

El cántico de María tiene la clave

para una iglesia rebosante de salud

ella nos ofrece en su poema

herramientas para la vida en plenitud

olvídense del gimnasio local

con sus máquinas quemagrasa

prueben en cambio la fórmula de María

que purifica y tonifica toda la masa

comiencen deshaciendo los planes

de los soberbios y altaneros

derroquen a los dictadores

remuevan del gobierno a los rateros

luego presten plena atención

a la exaltación de los humildes

repartan bienes, tierra y dinero

colmen a los hambrientos de bienes

esta fórmula puede asustarnos

y suele espantar patrocinadores

pero el evangelio es en esencia

la anulación de todo tipo de opresores

Adviento es época de transformar

y ver con los ojos del corazón

las injusticias que exigen revoluciones

las inequidades que deshacen nuestra unión

ven, Señor Jesús, y muéstranos la vía

para hacer en tu nombre grandes cambios

hasta que toda la creación se regocije con María

porque inicia la era de tu reinado igualitario
