From the Pastor: “On Following”
This Sunday we read one of the Gospel accounts about disciples being called by Jesus. Then we will ordain and install several members as church officers. The Bible talks about followers of Jesus being called and being sent. They are both disciples (learners) and apostles (ambassadors) at the same time. And the same is true of us. Both actions are part of the dynamic of following Jesus. As we start a new year of ministry, I pray that we will remember that we are all called and sent by our baptism. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
De la Pastora: “Sobre el Seguir”
Este domingo leemos uno de los relatos de los Evangelios sobre el llamado que Jesús hace a los discípulos. Luego ordenaremos e instalaremos a varios miembros como oficiales de la iglesia. La Biblia nos dice que los seguidores de Jesús son llamados y enviados. Son a la vez discípulos (aprendices) y apóstoles (embajadores). Y lo mismo se aplica a nosotros. Ambas acciones son parte de la dinámica del seguir a Jesús. Al comenzar un nuevo año de ministerio, oro porque recordemos que todos y todas somos llamados y enviados por nuestro bautismo. ~ Rev. From the Pastor: “On Dreams”
The Bible is full of leaders who were dreamers. Some predicted events; some interpreted symbols. Others were people with audacious ideas. Jesus himself was a dreamer, someone who revolutionized his community with his teachings. And God himself (or herself) is a dreamer, the creating force that constantly offers us new life and new visions. This weekend we celebrate the life of a great dreamer: the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May we renew our commitment to honor his legacy by keeping alive the dream of “liberty and justice for all.” ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
De la Pastora: “Sobre los Sueños”
La Biblia está llena de líderes que fueron también soñadores. Algunos predijeron eventos; algunas interpretaron símbolos. Otros fueron personas con ideas audaces. Jesús mismo fue un soñador, alguien que revolucionó su comunidad con sus enseñanzas. Y Dios mismo es un soñador (o una soñadora), la fuerza creadora que constantemente nos ofrece nueva vida y nuevas visiones. Este fin de semana celebramos la vida de un gran soñador: el Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ojalá que renovemos nuestro compromiso de honrar su legado manteniendo vivo el sueño de “libertad y justicia para todos”. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
