From the Pastor: “On Lent”
The forty days of Lent are a countdown to Easter. The word Lent is derived from a Germanic root that means spring, and refers to the time when this liturgical season is observed. The Latin name for the season is quadragesima, which means forty (the number of days in the season). Romance, Slavic, and Celtic languages preserve the Latin root; in Spanish, the name of this season is Cuaresma. Lent is a time of prayer, repentance, sacrificial giving and good works. May these 40 days be a time of prayer and actions that offer healing to the world. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García

Los cuarenta días que comienzan el Miércoles de Ceniza son una cuenta regresiva hasta Resurrección. En inglés esta época se llama Lent, palabra de origen germánico que significa primavera y hace referencia a la estación del año. En latín esta etapa litúrgica se llama quadragesima, que significa cuarenta (número de días de la festividad). Las lenguas románticas, eslávicas y celtas preservan la raíz latina, razón por la cual en español la estación se llama Cuaresma. Es una época de oración, arrepentimiento, sacrificio y buenas obras. Ojalá que estos 40 días sean un tiempo de oración y acciones que ofrecen sanidad al mundo. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
