Es fácil prender un fuego:
Basta con unos palos
y un poco de yesca
que en minutos se calientan
a base de fricción.

Es fácil prender un fuego:
Basta con un fósforo
y un pedazo de lija
que al frotarse alcanzan
temperatura de ignición.

Es fácil prender un fuego:
Basta con un policía prepotente
y la muerte por fuerza excesiva
de un sospechoso desarmado
cuya raza es una provocación.

Es fácil prender un fuego:
Basta con un historial de racismo
y un cúmulo de maltratos
que inflaman los ánimos
de toda una población.

Es fácil prender un fuego:
Basta con prestar oído sordo
a los reclamos de justicia racial
que todavía siguen vigentes
a pesar de la supuesta integración.

Es fácil prender un fuego:
Lo difícil es apagarlo
porque para eso hace falta
forjar un mundo de paz y equidad
donde no tenga cabida la marginación.

Dios de la Columna de Fuego,
tú que guiaste a tu pueblo
a través del desierto,
alúmbranos ahora
con la luz de tu justicia
para que podamos construir
una nueva humanidad.

Dios de las Lenguas de Fuego,
tú que derramaste sobre tu pueblo
el don del entendimiento,
llénanos ahora
de la luz de tu sabiduría
para que podamos construir
una nueva sociedad.

You just need a few sticks
and a bit of tinder
that warm up in minutes
with the use of friction.

It’s easy to ignite a fire:
You just need a match
and a piece of sand paper
that rubbed together reach
the temperature for ignition.

It’s easy to ignite a fire:
You just need an overbearing policeman
and the death due to excessive force
of an unarmed suspect
whose race is a provocation.

It’s easy to ignite a fire:
You just need a history of racism
and an accumulation of abuses
that inflame the tempers
of an entire population.

It’s easy to ignite a fire:
You just need to give a deaf ear
to the demands for racial justice
that are still prevalent
despite our alleged integration.

It’s easy to ignite a fire:
The tough part is extinguishing it
because we would need to forge
a world of peace and equity
where there is no room for marginalization.

God of the Pillar of Fire,
you who guided your people
through the desert,
illumine us now
with the light of your justice
so that we might build
a new humanity.

God of the Tongues of Fire,
you who poured upon your people
the gift of understanding,
fill us now
with the light of your wisdom
so that we might build
a new society.
