Jesus of the table,
you who shared bread
with all kinds of people
and were accused
of being a glutton,
remind us that life
is more than work
and that rest
and good company
are sources of renewal.

Jesus of the feast,
you who shared the cup
with all kinds of people
and were accused
of being a drunkard,
teach us to value life
more than material goods
and to discover
that each day well lived
can be a burden of delight.
Amen.

Jesús de la mesa,
tú que por compartir el pan
con todo tipo de gente
fuiste acusado
de ser glotón,
recuérdanos que la vida
no es solo trabajo
y que el descanso
y la buena compañía
son fuentes de renovación.

Jesús de la fiesta,
tú que por compartir la copa
con todo tipo de gente
fuiste acusado
de ser borrachón,
enséñanos a valorar la vida
más que los bienes materiales
y a descubrir
que cada jornada bien vivida
puede ser una carga de delicia.
Amén.

“There is so much thirst” / “Hay tanta sed”

A prayer based on Matthew 10:40-42 / Una oración basada en Mateo 10:40-42

God who provided
water from the rock in the desert,
we live in a world
where there is so much thirst:
thirst for acceptance
and thirst for compassion,
thirst for affection
and thirst for justice,
thirst for dignity
and thirst for opportunity,
thirst for equality
and thirst for equity.

God who provided
living water in Samaria,
help us to perceive
the thirst of others
and to offer
a cup of fresh water
in your name
to all creatures,
without prejudice
or partiality,
knowing that as we do this
we practice radical hospitality
and announce your realm
of mercy, righteousness and freedom.

Dios que hiciste brotar
agua de la roca en el desierto,
vivimos en un mundo
donde hay tanta sed:
sed de aceptación
y sed de compasión,
sed de una caricia
y sed de justicia,
sed de dignidad
y sed de oportunidad,
sed de igualdad
y sed de equidad.

Dios que hiciste brotar
agua viva en Samaria,
ayúdanos a percatarnos
de la sed ajena
y a ofrecer
un vaso de agua fresca
en tu nombre
a toda criatura,
sin prejuicio
ni parcialidad,
sabiendo que al hacerlo
practicamos la hospitalidad radical
y anunciamos tu ámbito
de misericordia, rectitud y libertad.
