“The trees are blooming” / “Los árboles florecen”

A reflection inspired by Psalm 96 and the cries for justice silenced by authorities and apathy

“Then all the trees of the forest too will shout out joyfully before the Lord because he is coming! He is coming to establish justice on the earth! He will establish justice in the world rightly. He will establish justice among all people fairly.
(Psalm 96:12b-13, CEB)

The trees are blooming,
God of the Seasons,
because it is spring
and it is in their nature
to wake up from the long sleep
of winter’s cold and icy storms,
to sink their roots
deeper into the earth,
to grow new leaves
tender and bright green,
to reach for the sky
following the light,
to extend their branches
offering nesting places and shade.

The trees are singing
the melody of spring
and we long for the day,
God of the Ages,
when all your children will sing,
honoring their true nature
as creatures made in your image,
and wake up from the long sleep
of selfish pursuits
and ruthless lies,
indifferent to the cries
of their neighbors and the earth.

Then all the trees of the forest
will shout out joyfully
and all living creatures
will join in the incessant song
because justice has sprung
upon the face of the earth
and all peoples can live
with dignity and freedom
in abundance and peace.

“Los árboles florecen”

Una reflexión inspirada por el Salmo 96 y los gritos de justicia que son silenciados por las autoridades y la apatía

“Entonces cantarán con júbilo todos los árboles del bosque delante del SEÑOR, pues él viene. Porque él viene para juzgar la tierra. Juzgará al mundo con justicia y a los pueblos con su verdad”. (Salmo 96:12b-13, RVA)

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalms+96&version=RVA-2015

Los árboles florecen,
Dios de las estaciones,
porque es primavera
y está en su naturaleza
despertar del largo sueño
del frío invernal y las tormentas heladas,
hundir sus raíces
en la profundidad de la tierra,
crecer nuevas hojas
tiernas y verde brillante,

y mentiras despiadadas,
indiferentes al clamor
de sus vecinos y la tierra.

Entonces los árboles del bosque
cantarán con júbilo
y todas las criaturas vivientes
se unirán en el canto incesante
porque la justicia ha brotado
sobre la faz de la tierra
y todos los pueblos pueden vivir
con dignidad y libertad
en abundancia y paz.

“Atreverse a blasfemar” / “Daring to blaspheme”

tuviste a bien bendecir?

¿Quién soy yo, Arquitecto del Universo,
para atreverme a cuestionar
aquello que en tu sabiduría
tuviste a bien diseñar?

¿Quién soy yo, Luz del Mundo,
para atreverme a despreciar
aquello que en tu gracia
tuviste a bien rescatar?

¿Quién soy yo, Piedra Viva,
para atreverme a pisotear
aquello que en tu juicio
tuviste a bien respetar?

¿Quién soy yo, Príncipe de Paz,
para atreverme a enemistar
aquello que en tu poder
tuviste a bien reconciliar?

¿Quién soy yo, Soplo Viviente,
para atreverme a condenar
aquello que en tu voluntad
tuviste a bien liberar?

¿Quién soy yo, Dios de la Vida,
para atreverme a irrespetar
la obra del Espíritu Santo
y de ese modo, blasfemar?

“Daring to blaspheme”

A reflection based on Mark 3:20-35

“To blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is to oppose the liberating work of Jesus, the action of the Holy Spirit, in order to continue oppressing the poor, the sick and the possessed.”[ii] And also to keep marginalizing those whom the church tradition has excluded.

by Magdalena I. García

Who am I, Creative Divinity,
to have the audacity to curse
that which in the beginning
you were pleased to bless?

Who am I, Architect of the Universe,
to have the audacity to question
that which in your wisdom
you were pleased to design?

Who am I, Light of the World,
to have the audacity to despise
that which in your grace
you were pleased to rescue?

Who am I, Living Stone,
to have the audacity to trample on
that which in your judgment
you were pleased to respect?

Who am I, Prince of Peace,
to have the audacity to alienate
that which in your power
you were pleased to reconcile?

Who am I, Living Breath,
to have the audacity to condemn
that which in your will
you were pleased to liberate?

Who am I, God of Life,
to have the audacity to disrespect
the work of the Holy Spirit
and in so doing dare to blaspheme?
