From the Pastor: “On Receiving the Christ Child”
Our Three Kings Feast includes a Spanish American tradition: a crown-shaped pastry reminiscent of the Magi. The tradition of placing a figurine of the Christ Child in the cake is very old. Whoever finds the baby Jesus figurine is blessed, and must take the figurine to church on February 2 (Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple), and throw a party. Three Kings is also the only Sunday when people fear having to too much cake during coffee hour! May we come to know that receiving the Christ Child is always a blessing to be welcomed, and never a burden to be feared. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
De la Pastora: “Sobre el Recibir al Niño Cristo”
Nuestra Fiesta de Reyes incluye una tradición hispana: la rosca que nos recuerda a los Magos. La tradición de poner una figurita del Cristo Niño en la masa es muy antigua. La persona que encuentre la figura del niño Jesús está bendecida, y debe llevar la figurita a la iglesia el 2 de febrero (la Fiesta de la Presentación de Jesús en el Templo) y dar una fiesta. ¡Tres Reyes es también el único domingo en que la gente tiene miedo servirse mucho pan durante la hora del café! Ojalá que descubramos que recibir al Cristo Niño es siempre una bendición que debemos anhelar, y nunca una carga que debamos temer! ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García

From the Pastor: “On Resolutions”
New Years is a time to make resolutions, which are vows to improve one’s life. As Christians we make vows every day as part of our walk of faith. And as Reformed Christians we do it to honor our tradition: “the church reformed, always reforming.” Last fall, on Reformation Sunday, we posed this question to the congregation: “What would you like to change in the world and in the church?” And we invited everyone to post answers on a Reformation Wall. The question is still valid. So we invite you to ponder it again, and to post your answer on the Resolutions Wall. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
De la Pastora: “Sobre las Resoluciones”
El Año Nuevo es una época de hacer resoluciones, que son votos para mejorar la vida. Los cristianos hacemos votos todos los días como parte de nuestro caminar de fe. Como cristianos reformados lo hacemos para honrar nuestra tradición: “la iglesia reformada, siempre reformándose”. El otoño pasado, el domingo de la Reforma, le preguntamos a la congregación: “¿Qué quieres cambiar en el mundo y en la iglesia?” Y les invitamos a poner las respuestas en la “Muralla de la Reforma”. La pregunta todavía es válida. Así que les invitamos a reconsiderarla y a pegar sus respuestas en la Muralla de las Resoluciones. ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
