Canta, María Virgen, canta,
con júbilo y gran emoción
tras recibir del arcángel
buenas nuevas de salvación.
Canta al Dios de los reversos,
canta al Dios de las sorpresas,
canta al Dios que hace justicia
y honra siempre sus promesas.
Canta al Dios de los sencillos,
canta al Dios de los hambrientos,
canta al Dios que sana heridas
y deshace el sufrimiento.
Canta al Dios que manda lluvia
canta al Dios de la cosecha,
canta al Dios que otorga bienes
a la gente insatisfecha.
Canta, María Virgen, canta,
al Dios que rompe cadenas,
porque anunciar liberación
es celebrar Nochebuena.

“Sing, Mary, sing”
A reflection based on Luke 1:39-56
by Magdalena I. García
Mary
sings a song of praise
full of joy, with great emotion
after hearing from the angel
the good news of God’s salvation.
She sings to the God of reversals,
the One whose gestures are amazing,
the Holy One who acts with justice
and whose promises are everlasting.
She sings to the God of the humble,
the One who fills the hungry with good things,
the Holy One who heals wounds
and alleviates all human suffering.
She sings to the God of the harvest,
the One who gives life and protection,
the Holy One who shelters people
longing for food and human connection.
She sings to the God of the exodus,
the One who breaks all captivity,
the Holy One who call us to proclaim
that Christmas is love and liberty.
