Duelen las traiciones
del supuesto amigo
convertido en enemigo,
en agente solícito
de poderes intolerantes
y sedientos de castigo.
Duelen las traiciones
del supuesto igualitarismo
convertido en autoritarismo,
y del imperialismo desenfrenado
impulsado por una avaricia insaciable
y un falso cristianismo.
Duelen las traiciones
del supuesto liberador
convertido en opresor,
una fallida revolución
devenida en hostigamiento
y poder subyugador.
Duelen las traiciones
de la supuesta solidaridad
convertida en complicidad,
en silencio cobarde
y palabrerío hueco
que justifican la crueldad.
Duelen las traiciones,
Jesús del Calvario,
y nos cuesta entender
como pudiste soportar
tanta injuria y provocación
sin responder a los ataques
con la espada y la agresión.
Duelen las traiciones,
Jesús del Madero,
y nos cuesta aprender
a confiar en la fuerza
de la verdad y la razón
sin menospreciar la eficacia
de la templanza y la compasión.

The betrayals sting—
those of the supposed friend
turned enemy,
a zealous agent
of intolerant powers
thirsting for punishment.
The betrayals hurt—
those of a supposed egalitarianism
turned into authoritarianism,
and of an unbridled imperialism
driven by an insatiable greed
and a false Christianity.
The betrayals sting—
those of the supposed liberator
turned oppressor;
a failed revolution
turned into harassment
and subjugating power.
The betrayals sting—
those of a supposed solidarity
turned into complicity,
into cowardly silence
and hollow rhetoric
that justify cruelty.
Betrayals hurt,
Jesus of Calvary,
and we struggle to understand
how you could endure
such insult and provocation
without answering the attacks
with the sword and aggression.
Betrayals hurt,
Jesus of the Cross,
and we struggle to learn
to trust in the strength
of truth and reason
without underestimating the efficacy
of temperance and compassion.
