“Peace is…” / “Paz es…”

Peace is a shower
of colorful leaves in the fall.
Peace is the stillness
of the forest in the winter.
Peace is the opening
of a flower bud in the spring.
Peace is the flight
of butterflies in the summer.

But peace isn’t just something
we passively contemplate.
Peace is something we build.

Peace is the hand
that offers friendship.
Peace is the pardon
that forgets an offense.
Peace is the accord
that stops a war.
Peace is the table
that makes room for everyone.

Peace is everything
we do alone and in community
to lift up one another
and to care for creation and humanity.

Paz es una lluvia
de hojas coloridas en el otoño.
Paz es la quietud
del bosque en el invierno.
Paz es la apertura
de un botón de flor en la primavera.
Paz es el vuelo
de las mariposas en el verano.

Pero la paz no es tan solo algo
que contemplamos pasivamente.
La paz es algo que construimos.

Paz es la mano
que ofrece amistad.
Paz es el perdón
que olvida una ofensa.
Paz es el acuerdo
que detiene la guerra.
Paz es la mesa
que tiene lugar para todes.

Paz es todo lo que hacemos
a solas o en comunidad
para levantarnos mutuamente
y cuidar de la creación y la humanidad.
