Strong winds
and heavy waves
threatened the disciples
on that boat
in the middle of the night,
but Jesus came to their rescue
and offered them
a helping hand.

Strong winds
and heavy waves
threaten God’s children today
on this earth
day and night,
and we wonder if Jesus will come to their rescue
and offer them
a helping hand.

But you send us,
even us, all of us,
Water-parting Deity,
Water-walking God,
to rebuke the winds of injustice
and calm the waves of oppression,
so that your beloved children
will no longer drown
in a sea of violence and apathy,
and find a safe port
where they can delight
in the embrace of community
and live in prosperity and peace.

Vientos fuertes
y grandes olas
amenazaron a tus discípulos
en la barca
en medio de la noche,
pero Jesús salió al rescate
y les ofreció
una mano amiga.

Vientos fuertes
y grandes olas
amenazan a les hijes de Dios hoy
en esta tierra,
día y noche,
y nos preguntamos si Jesús saldrá al rescate
y les ofrecerá
una mano amiga.

Pero tú nos envías,
a nosotres, todes nosotres,
Deidad que partes las aguas,
Dios que caminas sobre las aguas,
a reprender los vientos de la injusticia
y calmar las olas de la opresión,
para que tus hijes amades
ya no se ahoguen
en un mar de violencia e indiferencia,
y hallen un puerto seguro
donde deleitarse
con el abrazo de la comunidad
y vivir en paz y prosperidad.
