Cuba atraviesa una situación crítica a medida que aumenta el descontento del pueblo, por razones políticas y económicas, y se realizan protestas contra el gobierno. Las manifestaciones del 11 de julio de 2021 dejaron un muerto, decenas de heridos y más de mil detenidos, de los cuales cientos permanecen en prisión, según Cubalex y Human Rights Watch[1]. Hay una Marcha Cívica por el Cambio convocada para el 15 de noviembre, pero el gobierno denegó el permiso para la misma y ha impuesto múltiples medidas de represión. Nos unimos, por tanto, en una plegaria por Cuba.
Oramos porque Dios tenga misericordia de la isla de Cuba…
Oramos porque amanezca un nuevo día de dignidad,
equidad y libertad para todo el pueblo…
Oramos porque los gobernantes cubanos escuchen el clamor del pueblo en vez de
silenciar, intimidar y reprimir las voces discordantes…
Oramos porque se preserve la vida humana y se libere a los presos políticos…
Oramos porque ningún cubano alce la mano contra otro compatriota tan solo por el hecho de pensar y opinar diferente…
Oramos porque se fomente una cultura de civismo y paz…
Oramos porque el pueblo cubano en su totalidad, en la isla y en la diáspora, pueda resolver sus diferencias sin la injerencia de ningún gobierno extranjero…
Oramos porque la iglesia sea luz que ilumine el camino de la verdad, la reconciliación y la esperanza…

Cuba is facing a critical situation as the discontent of its people grows, due to political and economic factors, and anti-government rallies are held. The July 11, 2021, protests left one person dead, dozens wounded, and over a thousand detained, with hundreds still imprisoned, according to Cubalex and Human Rights Watch. A Civic March for Change has been called for November 15, but the government denied a permit for the activity and has imposed multiple repressive measures. Therefore, we join in a prayer for Cuba.
We pray that God might have mercy on the island of Cuba…
We pray for the dawning of a new day of dignity, equity and liberty for all the people…
We pray that Cuba’s rulers might hear the cries of the people instead of silencing, intimidating and repressing discordant voices…
We pray for human life to be preserved and for the liberation of all political prisoners…
We pray that no Cuban shall raise his or her hand against a fellow citizen simply on account of different thoughts and opinions…
We pray for the fostering of a culture of civility and peace…
We pray that the Cuban people as a whole, on the island and in the diaspora, might resolve their differences without the interference of any foreign government…
We pray that the church might be a light which illumines the path of truth, reconciliation, and hope…
