enable us, God of the waves,
to hear your voice saying:
“Take heart. I’m here. Do not be afraid.”
When the storms of life beat us,
enable us, God of the waves,
to hear your voice saying:
“Take heart. I’m here. Do not be afraid.”
When the whirlwinds of life whip us,
enable us, God of the waves,
to hear your voice saying:
“Take heart. I’m here. Do not be afraid.”
When the squalls of life pummel us,
enable us, God of the waves,
to hear your voice saying:
“Take heart. I’m here. Do not be afraid.”
When the inclemencies of life rock us,
enable us, God of the waves,
to hear your voice saying:
“Take heart. I’m here. Do not be afraid.”

Come, Jesus of the Sea of Galilee,
walk again on the waters
of adversity and evil
that threaten our lives
and give us your peace.
Come, Jesus of the Sea of Tiberias,
walk again on the waters
of injustice and inequity
that threaten our lives
and give us your peace.
Come, Jesus of Sea of Kinnereth,
walk again on the waters
of domination and exclusion
that threaten our lives
and give us your peace.

Cuando las tempestades de la vida nos asaltan,
permítenos, Dios de las olas,
escuchar tu voz que nos dice:
“Ánimo. Aquí estoy. No tengan miedo”.
Cuando las tormentas de la vida nos golpean,
permítenos, Dios de las olas,
escuchar tu voz que nos dice:
“Ánimo. Aquí estoy. No tengan miedo”.
Cuando los torbellinos de la vida nos azotan,
permítenos, Dios de las olas,
escuchar tu voz que nos dice:
“Ánimo. Aquí estoy. No tengan miedo”.
Cuando las borrascas de la vida nos vapulean,
permítenos, Dios de las olas,
escuchar tu voz que nos dice:
“Ánimo. Aquí estoy. No tengan miedo”.
Cuando las inclemencias de la vida nos sacuden,
permítenos, Dios de las olas,
escuchar tu voz que nos dice:
“Ánimo. Aquí estoy. No tengan miedo”.

Ven, Jesús del Mar de Galilea,
camina de nuevo sobre las aguas
de la adversidad y la maldad
que amenazan nuestra vida
y danos tu paz.
Ven, Jesús del Mar de Tiberíades,
camina de nuevo sobre las aguas
de la injusticia y la inequidad
que amenazan nuestra vida
y danos tu paz.

They came from surrounding towns.
“Send the crowds away,” the disciples said.
They walked great distances over hills and valleys.
“Send the crowds away,” the disciples said.
They sought healing of body and soul.
“Send the crowds away,” the disciples said.
They were hungry for food and hope.
“Send the crowds away,” the disciples said.

They come from around the world.
“They need not go away,” Jesus says.
They walk across borders and deserts.
“They need not go away,” Jesus says.
They seek healing from violence and trauma.
“They need not go away,” Jesus says.
They are hungry for acceptance and opportunity.
“They need not go away,” Jesus says.

And as a commentary on the Lord’s Prayer,
and an answer to the petition
“Give us this day our daily bread,”
Jesus gave the disciples of all ages
a manual for living the faith:
“You give them something to eat.”

“Un manual para la vida de fe”

Una letanía basada en Mateo 14:13-21

Vinieron de todas las ciudades circundantes.
“Despide a toda esta gente”, dijeron los discípulos.
Caminaron largas distancias por colinas y valles.
“Despide a toda esta gente”, dijeron los discípulos.
Buscaban sanar del cuerpo y la mente.
“Despide a toda esta gente”, dijeron los discípulos.
Tenían hambre de comida y esperanza.
“Despide a toda esta gente”, dijeron los discípulos.

Vienen de alrededor del mundo.
“No tienen por qué irse”, dice Jesús.
Atraviesan fronteras y desiertos.
“No tienen por qué irse”, dice Jesús.
Buscan sanar de la violencia y el trauma.
“No tienen por qué irse”, dice Jesús.
Tienen hambre de aceptación y oportunidad.
“No tienen por qué irse”, dice Jesús.

Y como un comentario al Padre Nuestro
y una respuesta a la petición
”el pan nuestro de cada día dánoslo hoy”,
Jesús le dio a los discípulos de todas las edades
un manual para vivir la fe:
“Denles ustedes de comer”.
