“The Hem of Heaven” by artist Nekisha Durrett is a sculpture installed in the Harriet Tubman Courtyard at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and social activist, and the sculpture reimagines a shawl worn by her. // “The Hem of Heaven” (“El borde del Cielo”), de la artista Nekisha Durrett, es una escultura instalada en el Harriet Tubman Courtyard del Obama Presidential Center, en Chicago. in the power of goodness to overcome evil,
forgive us, O God,
and remind us of the courageous witness
of the saints inspired by the life of Jesus.

When we refuse to believe
in the power of justice to sow peace,
forgive us, O God,
and remind us of the courageous witness
of the saints inspired by the life of Jesus.

When we refuse to believe
in the power of forgiveness to heal wounds,
forgive us, O God,
and remind us of the courageous witness
of the saints inspired by the life of Jesus.

When we refuse to believe
in the power of generosity to yield fruits,
forgive us, O God,
and remind us of the courageous witness
of the saints inspired by the life of Jesus.

When we refuse to believe
in the power of truth to promote freedom,
forgive us, O God,
and remind us of the courageous witness
of the saints inspired by the life of Jesus.

When we refuse to believe
in the power of actions to speak louder than words,
forgive us, O God,
and remind us of the courageous witness
of the saints inspired by the life of Jesus.
