Fresh out of the Jordan,
with his skin moistened
by the flow of the river,
Jesus went to the desert,
led by the Spirit.
Fresh out of the Jordan,
with his soul drenched
by the affirmation of identity,
Jesus went to the desert,
driven by the Spirit.
And he was tested
multiple times
by Satan,
but he was able to resist
because like a succulent plant
he had spiritual reserves
that hydrated his life.
God of the waters of Creation,
help us to remember that we belong to you
so we might be able to overcome
the attacks of the enemy
without losing our way.
God of the dunes of the Desert,
teach us to irrigate our furrows with your Word
so we might be able to confront
the aridity of trials
without losing our faith.

Una reflexión basada en Marcos 1:9-15

Recién salido del Jordán,
con la piel humedecida
por el caudal del río,
se fue Jesús al desierto,
llevado por el Espíritu.
Recién salido del Jordán
con el alma empapada
por la identidad afirmada,
se fue Jesús al desierto,
impulsado por el Espíritu.
Y fue puesto a prueba
repetidas veces
por Satanás,
más pudo resistir
porque cual planta suculenta
tenía reservas espirituales
que hidrataban su vida.
Dios de las aguas de la Creación,
ayúdanos a recordar que te pertenecemos
para que podamos vencer
los ataques del enemigo
sin perder el rumbo.
Dios de las dunas del Desierto,
enséñanos a irrigar nuestro surco con tu Palabra
para que podamos enfrentar
la aridez de la prueba
sin perder la fe.

The world could care less
that Jesus was transfigured
on a mountain long ago
and his clothes became shiny,
dazzling like snow.
The world could care less
that Jesus saw Elijah and Moses
on a mountain long ago
and discussed spiritual matters
with prophets and teachers of old.
The world could care less
that Jesus heard a voice from a cloud
on a mountain long ago
that reaffirmed his identity
in the heavens and below.
Unless Jesus’ disciples
allow the light of God’s love
to shine in their lives
with kindness for all humankind,
the world could care less.
Unless Jesus’ disciples
allow the fire of God’s love
to ignite their hearts
with mercy for all humankind,
the world could care less.
Unless Jesus’ disciples
allow the hope of God’s love
to echo in their deeds
with compassion for all humankind,
the world could care less.
Let us live, then, in such a way,
that the light, the fire and the hope
of God’s love radiate in our lives
and reinforce our commitment
to service and solidarity,
so the world may never doubt
that we care about its well-being.

Al mundo no le interesa
que Jesús se transfiguró
en una montaña siglos atrás
y que su vestimenta se volvió
resplandeciente como la nieve.
Al mundo no le interesa
que Jesús vio a Elías y Moisés
en una montaña siglos atrás
y discutió asuntos espirituales
con profetas y maestros de antaño.
Al mundo no le interesa
que Jesús oyó una voz desde la nube
en una montaña siglos atrás
que reafirmó su identidad
en los cielos y en la tierra.
A menos que los discípulos de Jesús
permitan que la luz del amor de Dios
brille en sus vidas
con bondad para toda la humanidad,
al mundo no le interesa.
A menos que las discípulas de Jesús
permitan que el fuego del amor de Dios
encienda sus corazones
con misericordia para toda la humanidad,
al mundo no le interesa.
A menos que les discípules de Jesús
permitan que la esperanza del amor de Dios
resuene en sus acciones
con compasión para toda la humanidad,
al mundo no le interesa.
Vivamos, entonces, de forma tal
que la luz, el fuego y la esperanza
del amor de Dios resplandezcan en nuestras vidas
y refuercen nuestro compromiso
con el servicio y la solidaridad,
para que el mundo no tenga la menor duda
de que su bienestar nos interesa.

In a world where others ignored her,
Jesus lifted her up.
In a society where others used her,
Jesus lifted her up.
In a culture where others abused her,
Jesus lifted her up.
Then the fever left her,
and immediately she served him.
Then the disease left her,
and in gratitude she served him.
Then the ailment left her,
and as a disciple she served him.
And from that moment forward,
she lifted up Jesus’ name.
And from that hour forward,
she lifted up Jesus’ name.
And from that day forward,
she lifted up Jesus’ name.

En una sociedad donde otras la usaban,

En una cultura donde otres la abusaban,

Entonces la fiebre se le quitó,
e inmediatamente ella le sirvió.
Entonces la enfermedad se le quitó,
y con gratitud ella le sirvió.
Entonces la dolencia se le quitó,
y como discípula ella le sirvió.
