“Two or three” / “Dos o tres”

A reflection based on Matthew 18:15-20

Two or three, this is enough,
for you to be present,
sweet Jesus,
in the forgiving spirit,
the compassionate gaze,
the friendly hand,
and the sincere embrace.
Yet where there is a crowd
with a mean spirit,
a judging gaze,
a treacherous hand,
and a hypocritical embrace,
there is only a hammer, nails and a cross,
absence of the living Christ,
darkness instead of light.
You are present,
dear Jesus,
at each table shared,
in each community integrated,
and in every corner of the world
where there are people committed
to love, justice, hope and life.

“Dos o tres”

Una reflexión basada en Mateo 18:15-20

Dos o tres, con eso basta,
para que estés presente,
dulce Jesús,
en el espíritu clemente,
en la mirada compasiva,
en el abrazo sincero
y en la mano amiga.
Mas donde hay una muchedumbre
de espíritu indolente,
de mirada enjuiciadora,
de abrazo hipócrita,
y de mano traidora,
allí solo hay martillo, clavos y cruz,
ausencia del Cristo vivo,
tinieblas en vez de luz.
Tú estás presente,
amado Jesús,
en cada mesa compartida,
en cada comunidad hermanada
y en cada rincón del mundo
donde hay gente comprometida
con el amor, la justicia, la esperanza y la vida.
