“Empty nets, full nets” / “Redes vacías, redes llenas”

A liturgical resource based on Luke 5:1-11

When the disciples did what tradition taught them,
their nets were empty.
When they did what they had always done before,
their nets were empty.
When they did what they most wanted to do,
their nets were empty.
When they did what made lots of sense,
their nets were empty.
When they did what everyone expected,
their nets were empty.
When they did what was the easiest thing to do,
their nets were empty.

But when the disciples did what Jesus taught them,
their nets were filled.
When they did what they had never done before,
their nets were filled.
When they did what they least wanted to do,
their nets were filled.
When they did what made little sense,
their nets were filled.
When they did what was completely unexpected,
their nets were filled.
When they did what was the toughest thing to do,
their nets were filled.

Master Jesus, deliver us
from the fear of deeper waters,
from the reluctance to step into the boat,
and from the resistance to abandon the shore.
Lord Jesus, launch us
towards the call that you extend,
towards the catch that you provide,
and towards the future that you envision.

“Redes vacías, redes llenas”

Un recurso litúrgico basado en Lucas 5:1-11

Cuando los discípulos hicieron lo que la tradición les enseñó,
sus redes estaban vacías.
Cuando hicieron lo que siempre habían hecho,
sus redes estaban vacías.
Cuando hicieron lo que más deseaban hacer,
sus redes estaban vacías.
Cuando hicieron lo que tenía mayor sentido,
sus redes estaban vacías.
Cuando hicieron lo que todo el mundo esperaba,
sus redes estaban vacías.
Cuando hicieron lo que resultaba más fácil,
sus redes estaban vacías.

Cuando los discípulos hicieron lo que Jesús les enseñó,
sus redes se llenaron.
Cuando hicieron lo que nunca antes habían hecho,
sus redes se llenaron.
Cuando hicieron lo que menos deseaban hacer,
sus redes se llenaron.
Cuando hicieron lo que tenía menor sentido,
sus redes se llenaron.
Cuando hicieron lo que nadie esperaba,
sus redes se llenaron.
Cuando hicieron lo que resultaba más difícil,
sus redes se llenaron.

Maestro Jesús, líbranos
del miedo a las aguas profundas,
de la renuencia a meternos en la barca,
y de la resistencia a abandonar la orilla.
Señor Jesús, lánzanos
hacia el llamado que tú extiendes,
hacia la pesca que tú provees,
y hacia el futuro que tú vislumbras.
