From the Pastor: “On Rejoicing”
The third week of Advent traditionally emphasizes joy, and the lectionary readings describe three joyful witnesses: the prophet Isaiah (chapter 61), Mary the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:39-56), and John the Baptist (John 1:6-28). All three witnesses faced tremendous challenges in their lifetime, but instead of offering us a lament, they give us a song. How did they do it? By focusing on what the Lord had done for God’s people, and what the Lord had promised to do! That was the reason for their witness and their joy! And this can also be our reason to witness—and to rejoice! ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García

De la Pastora: “Sobre el Regocijo”
La tercera semana de Adviento tradicionalmente enfatiza el gozo y las lecturas del leccionario describen a tres testigos gozosos: el profeta Isaías (capítulo 61), María la madre de Jesús (Lucas 1:39-56) y Juan el Bautista (Juan 1:6-28). Los tres testigos encararon tremendos retos en sus vidas, pero en vez de ofrecernos un lamento nos dan un cántico. ¿Cómo lo lograron? ¡Al enfocarse en lo que Dios había hecho por su pueblo y lo que Dios había prometido hacer! ¡Ésa fue la razón de su testimonio y su gozo! Y ése puede ser también el motivo de nuestro testimonio—¡y de nuestro gozo! ~ Rev. Magdalena I. García
