“Everyone counts” / “Todes cuentan”

A reflection based on Luke 15:1-32

He wasn’t lost,
he distanced himself
because he felt marginalized
on account of his views.

She wasn’t lost,
she had to take a break
because she felt rejected
on account of her behavior.

They wasn’t lost,
but they had to leave
because they felt judged
on account of their affections.

But the gospel and its parables call us
to renounce prejudice, to let hatred go,
and to celebrate that everyone counts
for a God whose love overflows.

“Todes cuentan”

Una reflexión basada en Lucas 15:1-32

No estaba perdido,
se tuvo que alejar
porque se sentía marginado
por su forma de pensar.

No estaba perdida,
se tuvo que ausentar
porque se sentía rechazada
por su forma de actuar.

No estaba perdide,
se tuvo que marchar
porque se sentía enjuiciade
por su forma de amar.

Pero el evangelio y sus parábolas
nos llaman los prejuicios a soltar
y a celebrar que todes cuentan
para un Dios que se desvive por amar.

A prayer for Transfiguration Sunday

God of light and love,
the world needs a transfiguration.
The world awaits the transformation
of oppression into liberation.
The world desperately needs to see your glory,
radiating in the Living Jesus,
reflected in the lives of believers,
and manifested in the bold and courageous actions
of people of all faiths,
on behalf of truth, justice, mercy and peace.

Transform our disfigured lives,
bent out of shape by cowardice and lies,
and give us vision and courage,
so that we might join you
in the holy and challenging work
of shedding light and planting gardens
where all your children can delight.
Amen

“Vidas desfiguradas”

Una oración para el Domingo de la Transfiguración

Dios de luz y amor,
el mundo necesita una transfiguración.
El mundo aguarda la transformación
de la opresión en liberación.
El mundo desesperadamente necesita ver tu gloria,
radiante en el Jesús vivo,
reflejada en las vidas de los creyentes,
y manifestada en las acciones osadas y valientes
de todos los pueblos de fe
a favor de la verdad, la justicia, la misericordia y la paz.

Transforma nuestras vidas desfiguradas,
deformadas por la cobardía y las mentiras,
y danos visión y valor,
para que podamos unirnos a ti
en la obra santa y retadora
de esparcir luz y sembrar huertos
donde todos tus hijos, hijas e hijes
se puedan deleitar.
Amén
