Prayers of the People
Ravenswood Presbyterian Church, in Chicago
A service of gratitude for 122 years of witness
and service in the Ravenswood area
(before relocating in the fall)
Led by Lisa Sacksteder, Mercedes Sierra and Aracely Rodríguez
We remember the past,
and the many generations that have called this place home:
from the handful of people who gathered at Library Hall
at Hermitage and Montrose in 1902,
to those who filled the first chapel built in 1907,
and the hundreds who worshipped here
in the 1940s, 50s and beyond.
We celebrate the decades of mission and education,
connection and relationships.
And we give thanks for the journey of faith.
Let God’s people say: Great is God’s faithfulness.
We honor the present,
praising God for the prophetic voice and stance
of this congregation that, in 1968,
at the height of the Civil Rights Movement,
welcomed as siblings in Christ and partners in mission
a group of first-generation Hispanic immigrants and their pastor.
We are proud of our identity as “the Church of the Open Door”.
We are a welcoming, intercultural and bilingual community
where all God’s beloved children are accepted just as they are,
and a Matthew 25 congregation
that seeks to serve the most vulnerable.
Let God’s people say: Great is God’s faithfulness.
We anticipate the future,
and the many things that God is yet to do
with and through this congregation.
We are filled with hope as we pray for the church
that God is calling us to be beyond the Ravenswood area.
And we are filled with joy as we plan for the community of faith
that we want our children and grandchildren to inherit:
a place where they learn to seek justice, love mercy
and walk humbly with God.
We recommit ourselves to live as true disciples of Jesus
by serving neighbors and foreigners alike.
Let God’s people say: Great is God’s faithfulness.

Iglesia Presbiteriana Ravenswood, en Chicago
Un servicio de gratitud por 122 años de testimonio
y servicio en en área de Ravenswood
(antes
de reubicarnos en el otoño)
Dirigida por Lisa Sacksteder, Mercedes Sierra and Aracely Rodríguez
Recordamos el pasado,
y las muchas generaciones que han considerado este su hogar:
desde el puñado de personas que se reunieron en la biblioteca
de las avenidas Hermitage y Montrose en 1902,
hasta las que llenaron la primera capilla construida en 1907,
y los cientos que adoraron aquí
en las décadas de 1940, 50 y más allá.
Celebramos las décadas de misión y educación,
conexión y relaciones.
Y damos gracias por el peregrinaje de fe.
Qué el pueblo de Dios diga: Grande es la fidelidad de Dios.
Honramos el presente,
alabando a Dios por la voz y la postura proféticas
de esta congregación que, en 1968,
cuando estaba en su apogeo
el Movimiento por los Derechos Civiles,
recibió como hermanos en Cristo y compañeros de misión
a un grupo de inmigrantes hispanos de primera generación
y su pastor.
Sentimos orgullo de nuestra identidad
como “la Iglesia de la Puerta Abierta”.
Somos una comunidad hospitalaria, intercultural y bilingüe
donde todes les hijes amades de Dios
reciben aceptación tal como son,
y una congregación Mateo 25
que procura servir a las personas más vulnerables.
Qué el pueblo de Dios diga: Grande es la fidelidad de Dios.
Anticipamos el futuro,
y las muchas cosas que Dios está por hacer
con esta congregación y por medio de ella.
Nos llena de esperanza el orar por la iglesia
que Dios nos está llamando a ser
más allá del área de Ravenswood.
Y nos llena de gozo hacer planes para la comunidad de fe
que deseamos nuestros hijos y nietas hereden:
un lugar donde aprendan a buscar la justicia,
amar la misericordia y caminar humildemente con Dios.
Nos comprometemos a vivir
como verdaderos discípulos de Jesús
sirviendo a vecinos y extranjeros por igual.
Qué el pueblo de Dios diga: Grande es la fidelidad de Dios.
