Weeds growing in my neighbor’s bushes cross the fence and invade my flower bed.
/ Hierbajos que crecen entre los arbustos de mi vecina cruzan la cerca e invaden
mi cantero de flores.
‘Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ – Matthew 13:30

They show up out of nowhere
like uninvited guests,
invading gardens and flower beds,
and they grow out of control
like pesky tenants,
surrounding annual and perennial crops.
And as soon as we spot them
we bring out the trowel and the hoe
to keep these opportunistic invaders
at bay, under control, out of sight
from our tidy gardens and uniform lawns.
They show up out of nowhere
like unwelcome intruders,
invading neighborhoods and cities,
and they grow out of control
like an annoying plague,
surrounding renters and owners alike.
And as soon as we spot them
we bring out the rules and the gavel
to keep these opportunistic newcomers
at bay, under control, out of sight
from our tidy communities and uniform churches.
Master Landscaper,
forgive us for the eagerness
to classify living things and label species,
and remind us that you alone
are the Lord of Creation.
Master Gardener,
forgive us for the urge
to purge the garden and control the soil,
and remind us that you alone
are the Lord of the Harvest.

‘Dejen que crezcan lo uno y lo otro hasta la cosecha. Cuando llegue el momento de cosechar, yo les diré a los segadores que recojan primero la cizaña y la aten en manojos, para quemarla, y que después guarden el trigo en mi granero’. – Mateo 13:30

Aparecen de la nada
como huéspedes inoportunos,
invadiendo las huertas y los canteros,
y crecen fuera de control
como inquilinos molestosos,
rodeando los cultivos anuales y perennes.
Y en cuanto los detectamos
sacamos el desplantador y el azadón
para mantener estos invasores oportunistas
a raya, bajo control, fuera del alcance de la vista
de nuestros prolijos jardines y céspedes uniformes.
Aparecen de la nada
como intrusos indeseados,
invadiendo vecindarios y ciudades,
y crecen fuera de control
como una plaga fastidiosa,
rodeando a inquilinos y dueños por igual.
Y en cuanto los detectamos
sacamos las reglas y el mazo
para mantener estos recién llegados oportunistas
a raya, bajo control, fuera del alcance de la vista
de nuestros prolijas comunidades e iglesias uniformes.
Maestro Paisajista,
perdónanos por el afán
de clasificar los entes vivos y etiquetar las especies,
y recuérdanos que sólo tú
eres el Señor de la Creación.
Maestro Jardinero,
perdónanos por la urgencia
de depurar la huerta y controlar la tierra,
y recuérdanos que sólo tú
eres el Señor de la Cosecha.
